The internet was first assembled as a collection of interconnected networks. It was an experimental network that started in the mid 70´s, but now it is an international infrastructure which supports many different disciplines. Because it has become so important, and so much information travels through the network computer related crimes have also started and even increased in the last ten years.
We have learned to depend on the internet for our daily activities, just as we depend on roads, deliver systems, electricity, etc. and that is what makes the internet such an easy mark for criminals.
But what criminals don’t consider, is that just as users of roads, water reservoirs, and telephone networks users want the internet to be safe, and are working hard at minimizing computer related crimes.
Today there are two real problems that plague the internet world. The first is considered a computer related crime, and it has to do with virus creation, theft, misconduct, malicious conduct with others. But the second problem is that of a lack of knowledge and awareness when it comes to computer technology security. The worst is that not even the computer experts have the knowledge they need to control the problem.
IT experts have no idea as to what is considered ethical and permitted behavior on the internet and it should be a part of their education. IT professionals need to be able to make objective ethical decisions based on educational knowledge about certain behaviors on websites and over the internet.
In the end, we at Nickels Private investigations believe that to take better control of computer related crimes we need to promote awareness, understand what is happening and get our expert programmer to know how to nip this type of behavior before it gets too far. This needs to be done soon because this type of criminalistic behavior is growing in leaps and bounds.
